President's Challenge (PALA+) - The Get Active Howard County School initiative: 

Get Active Howard County (GAHC) officially starts on Monday, March 26^th.  All Howard County students are invited to join in this county-wide community wellness initiative.  This year, we are introducing our students to the President’s Challenge (PALA+).  PALA stands for Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.  Every student has the ability to meet this challenge, regardless of their current level of fitness.  PALA+ is more than a fitness initiative; it incorporates healthy eating and other important lifestyle habits.  More information will be provided at the Get Active Howard County School Kick-off event.        PALA+ Q & A

Check the list of schools below to see if your school is participating.  If your school is listed, you can register any time after March 16, 2012.  Please note your school team code shown below next to your school name.  After you locate your team code, you can register as a new member. 

Teachers and Administrators:

The Get Active Howard County (GAHC) initiative encourages all institutions including schools, workplaces, and every individual, to focus on incorporating healthy lifestyle. GAHC's strength comes through the participation and collaboration of the many public and private institutions in Howard County that support it.  GAHC encourages and supports Howard County schools to set up teams for their students and faculty.  Participating schools will have access to both utilize and support the county wellness calendar.  Participating schools will also have access to tracking tools and up to date communications about opportunities to support their own wellness initiatives when appropriate community events and activities are available.  We Promote Health, Inc., the coordinating partner for this program, will also provides support for Howard County schools who want to take advantage of WeCan!, a national childhood obesity program. 

Check the list of schools below to see if your school is participating.  If your school is not on the list, complete this form to start a school team.  Each school should have at least one adult assigned as it's team administrator.  This individual can be a member of the school's faculty, PTA or an interested parent approved by that specific school.  Please let us know if you are interested and that you have the authority to accept this responsibility.   There can be more than one administrator for each school.  We Promote Health has assigned a member of our board to serve as administrator on each team until such time that each team has their own designated administrator(s).
